Your newborn is discovering the world every waking moment. Everything she hears, sees, smells, touches and tastes is part of her child development. Your 1st priority is to help baby’s awakening awareness by providing her with a safe, stimulating environment to explore.
In the nursery
A newborn will spend much of her time in the nursery. Play and chat with her there. Make it a stimulating place by including:
- bright colors
- soft activity toys
When the time comes to sleep, keep stimulation and noise low key. Use a soothing night light to give the right ambiance for baby to doze off. A baby monitor will ensure you hear her stirring as she sleeps.
Time out with you
You are your baby’s best entertainment. She’ll love learning from you whether you’re giving her your full attention or taking care of the housework around her.
Strap her securely in a reclining baby bouncer/relaxer, ideally one that has a bar to hang activity toys from. She will watch, listen, play and learn, developing all the time. When she drops off to sleep, simply recline the bouncer/relaxer and leave her to snooze.
Exploring the great outdoors
To a young baby, a walk in the park in her stroller is as exciting as a safari for her newborn discoveries. It’s great for you to get out for some fresh air and exercise every day, too.
Choose a stroller that reclines fully so that when your newborn has had enough of the sights she can lay back and sleep. She’ll be safe and comfortable as she starts to explore the world for the first time. The rest is up to you.
